Dikou Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Early Nanhuan (latest Tonian-early Cryogenian) Nh (69)

Province:
Fujian

Type Locality and Naming

North-central Fujian. The Dikou Fm was named by the Fujian Party of Regional Geologic Survey in 1974. The typical section is located in Dikou village, 35. 5 km southeast of Jian'ou County, Fujian Province.

Synonym: (迪口组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Dikou Fm is dominated by gray to light gray biotite plagioclase leptite, two-mica plagioclase leptite. Lower part is largely migmatized leptite. Upper part is intercalated with minor biotite (two-mica) schist and thin-bedded quartzite. The total thickness is more than 5879 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanics

Relationships and Distribution

Age

Uncertain! According to some new data of K-Ar ages (one is 267.5 Ma, another is 268±16 Ma), the age of Dikou Formation probably is very much younger (Permian?) than most researchers previously thought. However, the zircon Pb-Pb dates from the Dikou metamorphic rock in Jian'ou County was determined to be 1822 Ma and 1851 Ma (Shui Tao et al., in 1988 to 1989). Depositional setting

The protolith is dominantly arkose and with developed sedimentary rhythms, representing the facies sequence of pericontinental sea to continental shelf.
